Dine In a Cave? With Ninjas? And Karaoke? Yes, Please!

So you’re probably wondering where in Manhattan you can find a cave, let alone a cave that has dinner and drinks, right?  AND NINJAS??  Cause nothing completes a meal like ninjas.  Listen up kiddies, because you’ve just stumbled onto three of the most unusual restaurants in NYC.  I make no guarantees that there are not more exotic, more faboo restaurants in NYC – I am certain that they are in existence.  These are the top 3 places that I have personally experienced and loved going to, and so I am passing on my knowledge to you.  As this blog says, these little posts are only based on my personal experience, and no one else’s.  So if you find a restaurant that you thought was simply intriguing and not to be missed, please pass on the knowledge so that other Jersey people, like myself, can experience all that NYC has to offer!
1.  La Caverna
La Caverna, or “The Cavern”, is not just a clever name.  This place is located in the East Village, at  122-124 Rivington Street between Essex and Norfolk Streets.   This restaurant is made to look like a cave – and so you will be drinking and dining amongst stalagmites and stalactites galore!  The food is Italian, and it’s pretty yummy for being served in a cave…but the ambiance is what you really come here for.  It’s a great place to take a group of friends, or a date you’d like to impress with your knowledge of unusual NYC restaurants.  Be sure to try the Aura – it is a yumtastic cocktail made with Vodka, Elderflower Liqueur, Ginger ale, fresh Lemon Juice & Orange Juice.  To be honest, no one comes here for the food – it’s average Italian food…but the drinks and the ambiance are not to be missed.   For more info, visit http://www.lacavernanyc.com/

2.  Ninja New York
Yes, you read right.  NINJA’S IN NYC!  And even better, they do Ninja magic and serve you smoking drinks and pretty origami food!!  So I really don’t want to give too much away with this one, but trust me when I say that this place is not to be missed!  All I can say is that there are Ninjas...there's a Ninja village which you need to pass through (in near darkness) in order to earn your right to sit at your table...and it will be an evening that you will never forget!  Ninja New York is located at 25 Hudson Street between Reade and Duane Streets in lower Manhattan - and it's only a couple of blocks away from the TriBeCa Performing Arts Center.  But that's another post for another time! http://www.ninjanewyork.com/

3.  Ellen's Stardust Diner
Where in NYC can you go and get a delicious diner-style burger AND have someone singing some of your favorite songs while serving your food?  Why, Ellen's Stardust Diner of course!  Established in 1987, this retro 1950s-styled diner is in the heart of Times Square, and it is always packed full of tourists and locals alike.  I first went here about 15 years ago, and let me tell you kiddies, this place is the maximum ultimate!  The singing waitstaff are Broadway performers at their day job, so you will have a front row seat to some of the best singers NYC has to offer!  Be sure to try the Mozzarella Triangles, the Monte "Cristo" Hall, and of course my personal fave - the Old Fashioned New York Style Ice Cream Malted...the BEST malted milk shake on the planet!  Trust me on this one - make a beeline to Ellen's.  Don't be such a square!  All the Hep Cats are doing it!  http://www.ellensstardustdiner.com/
